Pioneer Linux 3.0
Technalign this week released Pioneer Linux 3.0, an Ubuntu-based desktop and server distribution. Pioneer Linux distributions are supported for seven years to give companies a stable Linux operating system. The Pioneer Linux distributions include a basic workstation edition, MigrationServer for server systems and Stagecoach, a combined workstation and server distro. Freespire 2.0.3
Freespire, another Ubuntu-based distribution, but with support for Linspire's Click-n-Run (CNR) support services, released version 2.0.3 this past week. Key changes in this edition include an updated CNR plugin, the new Flash 9 and a host of KDE network and multimedia tools. Freespire uses the KDE desktop environment and includes proprietary software (Flash, Adobe Acrobat etc) when the software is needed.
PC-BSD 1.4
If BSD is your operating system of choice then you'll be glad to know that the PC-BSD team this week released PC-BSD 1.4. Codenamed 'da vinci', PC-BSD 1.4 can be downloaded from the PC-BSD download page (http://www.pcbsd.org/content/view/21/11/). Highlights in this release include Xorg 7.2, KDE 3.5.7, Compiz-Fusion 0.5.2, support for Flash7 in native BSD browsers (Konq, Opera, Firefox) and official NVIDIA drivers to simplify activating hardware acceleration.
Ubuntu 7.10
The many fans of Ubuntu Linux will be pleased to see this popular distribution moving quickly towards its next release. The Ubuntu team this week announced the release of a beta of Ubuntu 7.10, or Gutsy Gibbon as it is also known. A full release of Ubuntu 7.10 is expected in October. Ubuntu 7.10 includes a host of new interface improvements and a fully automated printer installation.
